When the government closes the door and churches and agencies don’t step up…
This is a story about a senior who is married and still working to meet bills. Let’s call him John. Two months into his new employment, John had a heart attack. He had no savings and now no income. He persistently sought the help of government and religion and after knocking on 25 doors, found no answer.
Finally, John found a church with a Care Planner who was able to advocate for John with his new employer to keep a job open for him until he recovers.
Going further, the CP helped John apply and receive ODSP. But the job was not done, as the ODSP would take 3 weeks to arrive. The CP worked with a Markham church to provide rent and food support for those three weeks.
Today, John is back at work and able to save money for the future.
